All Registered Health Play Specialists are required to renew their registration annually, and to submit a CPD Profile for audit every 3 years, if they wish to remain listed on the public register. This robust re-registration process is something SoHPS are very proud of and compares favourably with the rigorous revalidation processes of other health professions.
The Registration Standards Committee would like to thank and to celebrate the 667 Health Play Specialists who renewed their professional registration in 2026. This year, a record 95% of registrants renewed their registration with SoHPS and we are proud to be able to claim that we have exceeded a 90% re-registration rate for the past 3 years.
Registrants are reminded to inform their line management and HR Teams of their re-registration with SoHPS and next renewal date of 31 March 2027. This reinforces the importance SoHPS attach to professional registration as we move towards the next stage in the evolution of the Health Play profession in the UK.
The Public Register of Health Play Specialists has grown year-on-year and currently numbers 688, including the addition of 13 new registrants since January and the return of 7 lapsed practitioners. We look forward to boosting this number with 50+ HPS students and apprentices expected to graduate this year and continue to support lapsed registrants and those returning to practice, to facilitate their reinstatement on the register.
The CPD Audit
Between January and April 2026 203 registrants submitted their CPD Profile for audit, many of which were of a very high standard. Eight of the 139 Profiles which were approved following a full assessment were nominated for the award of Profile of the Year, the winner to be announced at the annual conference in June.
